As a pledge to our future generations, to mother earth and all of nature, join our Shakti Shanti Environmental Challenge for the month of June.
Together, let’s start doing something towards saving and helping our environment JUST for the month of June, let’s take baby steps together towards a brighter future.
“Remember, to make a difference, we don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly, but we do need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
1. Support a local Business
As opposed to a global franchise, just for these next few days. It may be that you buy fruit from the guy on the roadside, bread from your local baker, or go to a restaurant close by.
Shakti Shanti is a proudly South African Brand.
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of a difference you want to make.” – Jane Goodall
2. Go Green
Make a conscious decision TODAY, that next time you go shopping for dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent make the decision to try a GREEN OPTION, get advice and try the best in your price range.
All Shakti Shanti fabrics react well to natural detergents.
GO GREEN – there is no PLANet B.
3. Clean UP
If there is an Environmental Clean-Up program this month, JOIN IT, if not, during these next few days consider taking a walk into nature with a bag and collecting the rubbish as you enjoy the gift of being outdoors, see how good it makes you feel!
Shakti Shanti is super comfy and easy to wear, making it the natural choice for being active outdoors.
The clean person is not the one that runs away from dirt, but one who takes the time and effort to tidy up a dirty environment.
4. Conscious Wardrobe
Just for the rest of the month of June, opt to only purchase garments that are ethically made; sustainably, honourably and morally. They are often and almost always more expensive because it takes extra effort to ensure that every person and every process along the way to making your garment benefits, and where nothing and no one is exploited.
Shakti Shanti aims to produce all her garments according to these principles.
“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively” – Bob Marley
5. If possible Share a ride or take a walk instead of a drive
In the next few days, consider offering someone a lift to work or school drop off, alternatively offer to go shopping for a friend, saving them the trip, you can even decide to be completely different and walk to the grocery store.
Shakti Shanti offers an amazing online service, ensuring that the only person on the road is the courier. This leaves you with more free time to spend with your friends and to enjoy the outdoors.
“The ultimate test of man’s conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard.” – Gaylord Nelson –
6. Wrap gifts sustainably
For the rest of the month, deliberately use newspaper or plain brown wrapping paper that can be recycled. Alternatively, upcycle old gift bags that were given to you.
Shakti Shanti carrier bags are perfect for reusing as gift bags.
Recycling turns things into other things, which is a bit like magic.
7. COMPOST
In the next few days, keep all your fruit and vegetable peelings in a reusable (of course) container, and then go ahead and blend them or cut them into small pieces and place the mixture in your garden or in a pot plant, offering a natural boost for the plants, and food for birds and worms.
Shakti Shanti is moving towards 100% compostable transparent bags.
“The earth is what we all have in common” – Wendy Berry –
8. Wash clothes less frequently
See if you can wear the same clothes for slightly longer, that may mean only changing twice a day instead of more, or replacing a garment back in your wardrobe that hasn’t been soiled or sweaty.
Due to the durability of a Shakti Shanti garment, you will find that with a beautiful neat fold, your garments will look fresh even after wearing them a few times.
“He that plants trees loves others besides himself” – Thomas Fuller –
9. Minimise plastic packaging
Reuse the plastic packaging that you couldn’t avoid. Like using ice cream tubs as Tupperware’s as a box to put odds and ends.
Shakti Shanti makes a concerted effort to continually recycle our plastic bags, to get as much use out of them as possible, to add to this we are moving to compostable bags, which will biodegrade after 30 days.
“I saw that you were perfect and I loved you.
I saw that you were imperfect and I loved you even more.” – Angelita Lim –
